LaneWatch-like DIY system
This project is freely inspired by the Honda LaneWatch system, available on the Sedan and Accord cars. This system enables the driver to switch lanes or turn safely, by suppressing the blind spots. It's composed by two cameras, located on either side of the car, beneath the right and left side mirrors.
This project is freely inspired by the Honda LaneWatch system, available on the Sedan and Accord cars. This system enables the driver to switch lanes or turn safely, by suppressing the blind spots. It's composed by two cameras, located on either side of the car, beneath the right and left side mirrors. When a turn signal is activated by the driver, the corresponding camera feed is selected and displayed on the main screen. The driver can then check the screen and decide if he can safely turn or not.
Update 1/07/14
Use cases and constraints on the control circuit (draft):
#1 The user is overtaking another vehicle.
The user is about to start an overtake.
No video signal is selected, the monitor is in idle mode.
The user activates the left turn signal: the left camera feed is selected and displayed on the screen. The user checks if there is no vehicle in his blind spot.
The user turns left and enters the second lane, overtakes the other vehicle : the left camera is displayed for a few seconds (tunable) after the end of the turn signal.
The user Is finishing his overtake by turning right to return to the first lane: the user activates the right turn signal , the right camera feed is selected and displayed on the screen.
The user checks the distance between his vehicle and the overtaken vehicle.
The right camera is displayed for a few seconds (tunable) after the end of the turn signal.
No video signal is selected, the monitor goes to idle.
Constraints:
a/When a turn signal is activated, the corresponding video feed must be selected and displayed in less than 2 seconds.
b/When the turn signal ends (left or right), the corresponding camera feed must remain active for a few seconds (in case of turn signal auto-cancel).
c/The latest video feed selected must have the priority over the previously selected feed .
d/The switching between the two signals when one of the two is already selected must not exceed approx. 5s.
#2 The user is going to enter a roundabout
#2.1 The user leaves the roundabout at the first exit
The user activates the right turn signal: the right camera feed is selected and displayed.
The user checks his blind spot, and turns right.
The right camera is displayed for a few seconds (tunable) after the end of the turn signal.
Constraints:
-Constraints from use case #1
#2.2 The user leaves the roundabout at the second exit
The user activates the right turn signal: the right camera feed is selected and displayed.
The user checks his blind spot, and turns right.
The user turns left to follow the external curve of the roundabout (the right turn signal is cancelled): the right camera feed is still displayed for a few seconds (tunable) after the end of the turn signal.
The user activates the right turn signal, before turning on the second exit.
The right camera feed remains on the diplay.
The user checks his blind spot.
The right camera is displayed for a few seconds (tunable) after the end of the turn signal.
Constraints:
-Constraints from use case #1
#2.3 The user leaves the roundabout at the third exit
The user activates the left turn signal: the left camera feed is selected and displayed.
The user checks his blind spot, and turns right to enter the internal lane. the left camera is still displayed.
The user is turning left, to follow the internal lane: the left camera feed is still displayed
The user activates the right turn signal, before turning right to take the third exit. The right camera feed is selected and displayed.
The user checks his blind spot.
The user turns right and exits the roundabout.
The right camera is displayed for a few seconds (tunable) after the end of the turn signal.
Constraints:
-Constraints from use case #1
a/The switching between the two signals must not exceed approx. 1 s.
#2.4 The user leaves the roundabout at the fourth exit (from the direction he was coming)
Similar as case #2.3
Constraints:
-Constraints from use case #2.3
#3 The user is turning right, crossing a bicycle lane
The user activates the right turn signal: the right camera feed is selected and displayed.
The user checks his blind spot
The user turns right
The right camera is displayed for a few seconds (tunable) after the end of the turn signal.
Constraints:
#1 a, #1 b, #1 c
#4 The user is turning left, a motorbike is at his left and preparing to continue forward.
The user activates the left turn signal: the left camera feed is selected and displayed.
The user checks his blind spot
The user turns left
The left camera is displayed for a few seconds (tunable) after the end of the turn signal.
Constraints:
#1 a, #1 b, #1 c
