Modbus communication protocol is an open standards communication protocol commonly used by PLCs and instruments. An Android powered phone or tablet is an ideal replacement for PCs that are commonly used to test, configure and troubleshoot PLCs and instruments. The goal of this project is to develop an Android Modbus master application that communicates with a PLC or instrument using the Andropod USB to rs485 bridge device. Currently, there are many Android Modbus/TCP master apps available, but no Modbus serial apps. One of the requirements for this project is for this app to be usable on Android devices that do not have USB host capability (pre-Android ICS). The Andropod is a unique USB to rs485 communication device that can make this project possible.
